  • Compliance & Consequences of Non-Compliance – Understand the powers of regulators, including civil penalties, infringement notices, and banning orders.

Module 1: Aged Care Act 2024 – Structure & Key Concepts

This module provides an overview of key concepts under the Aged Care Act and also covers:

  1. Registration and renewal requirements for registered providers
  2. The suitability requirements of Responsible Persons
  3. Obligations to notify changes in circumstances
  4. Statutory duties of registered providers and relevant Responsible Persons
  5. The meaning of due diligence

Module 2: Entry to the Aged Care System & Funding Arrangements

This module covers:

  1. Entry into the Commonwealth aged care system including eligibility, assessment, classification, and prioritisation
  2. Admission requirements across all customer pathways
  3. Start and Cessation Notifications
  4. Service Lists
  5. Security of tenure in residential care, room movements, and cessation under Support at Home (SAH)
  6. Other common operational issues

Module 3: Registration & Provider Obligations

This module focuses on Conditions of Registration and covers:

  1. Statement of Rights and Principles  
  2. Code of Conduct
  3. Conditions related to: the delivery of Funded Aged Care Services (FACS); financial responsibilities; obligations relating to aged care workers; information provision and access; governance requirements; restrictive practices; incident management and complaints
  4. Reporting obligations of registered providers, responsible persons, and aged care workers, including the requirement for providers to notify of any changes in circumstances

Module 4: Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) & Governance Obligations

This module focuses on clinical governance and consumer-facing risk and covers:

  1. An overview of the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
  2. Substitute decision-making and the role of supporters
  3. Reporting obligations for Priority 1 and Priority 2 incidents
  4. Regulatory strategy and the Aged Care Governance System

Module 5: Clinical Governance & Consumer Facing Risk

This module provides an overview of aged care funding arrangements, including subsidies and supplements for residential care, accommodation payments, Higher Everyday Living Fees (HELF), SAH funding, and the management of unspent funds under the SAH program.

Module 6: Compliance & Consequences of Non-Compliance

This module examines regulatory mechanisms and review processes, including the powers of the System Governor, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, and the Complaints Commissioner. It also covers banning orders, assurance activities, and the processes for reconsideration and review of regulatory decisions.
