Standard 2: The Organisation sets out the responsibilities of the Governing Body/Board in meeting the requisites of the Strengthened Aged Care Standards.

The Governing Body/Board holds the responsibility for ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality care and services. This responsibility is manifested in the organisation’s strategic direction, plan, and accountability matrix.

The key concepts for Standard 2 include:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Continous Improvement
  • Enterprise risk management
  • Workforce planning that includes competency based education and training
  • Emergency management
  • Information managemednt

These concepts sit in partnership with the care provided to older people. 

The 10 outcomes for Standard 2 The organisation are:

  • Partnering with the older person
  • Quality and safety culture
  • Accountability and quality systems
  • Risk management
  • Incident management
  • Feedback and complaints management
  • Information management
  • Workforce planning
  • Human Resource management
  • Emergency and disaster management

These outcomes emphasise establishing meaningful and active partnerships with older people to inform strategic planning, establish organisational priorities, and continuously enhance the lived experience of older people.

Within Standard 2, Outcome 2.8 ‘Workforce Planning’ and Outcome 2.9 ‘Human Resources Management,’ there is a requirement for competency-based education for all workers.
