[On Demand 2025] Principles of Documentation

This 22-minute training program is designed to equip aged care workers with the foundational knowledge to create documentation that is not only accurate and person-centred but also legally defensible. With the significant reforms underway, including the new Aged Care Act 2024 and the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, this course is an essential tool for ensuring compliance and maintaining the highest standards of care.

The main target audience for this training is those whose documentation directly impacts client care, legal compliance, and an organisation’s financial and professional standing. This group includes:

  • Clinical Staff: Registered Nurses (RNs), Enrolled Nurses (ENs), Medical Officers, and Allied Health professionals (e.g., Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists). They are a critical audience because their notes are used to justify care, demonstrate medical necessity, and can be scrutinised in legal and complaint investigations.
  • Support Workers: This is a large group that includes Personal Care and Support staff, as well as Assistants in Nursing. Their day-to-day notes are the primary record of the care provided, and it’s essential that they are accurate and complete to protect both themselves and the organisation.
  • Case Managers and Coordinators: These professionals rely on documentation to ensure continuity of care, track progress toward goals, and justify funding for services.
  • Management and Leadership: Team leaders, coordinators, and other managers need to understand defensible documentation to ensure their staff are meeting legal and quality standards, and to mitigate risk for the organisation.
